Twelve hours of blockade is equal to all the insulin needed to treat the country’s 64,000 patients for a year
A Havana billboard reads: Twelve hours of blockade is equal in cost to all the insulin needed to treat the country’s 64,000 patients for a year

End the blockade on health

US sanctions are depriving 10 million Cubans of vital medicines and surgical supplies

Cuba Vive is a medical aid appeal sending life-saving medicines, surgical supplies and essential medical equipment to Cuba.

Cuba’s commitment to health as a human right has enabled it to build world-renowned health services despite more than six decades of an illegal US blockade. But today those achievements are under serious threat. The combined impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, global economic crisis, climate pressures, and renewed escalation of US sanctions under President Donald Trump – including Cuba’s continued inclusion on the US State Sponsors of Terrorism list – has placed extraordinary strain on the health system.

What we’ve achieved together

Thanks to the generosity of supporters, more than £280,000 has been raised and six consignments of aid have already been delivered to Cuba.

These shipments – worth over £1.3 million when donated supplies are included – have sent urgently needed medicines, surgical equipment, hospital beds, mobility aids, diagnostic equipment, PPE and hurricane relief supplies directly to Cuban hospitals and clinics.

Now, as shortages deepen and fuel restrictions threaten food distribution as well as healthcare provision, the appeal has expanded to include emergency food aid alongside medical supplies. Containers of rice, lentils and essential nutrition are now being shipped to support the most vulnerable – particularly children, pregnant women and older people.

This expansion strengthens, rather than shifts, our mission: protecting health means ensuring access to both medical treatment and adequate nutrition.

Let Cuba Live
Cuba’s dedicated health professionals continue to treat patients under immense pressure. From sutures to antibiotics, from spare parts for medical equipment to basic pain relief, items that are readily available in the UK are scarce, delayed or priced far beyond reach.

The consequences are serious. After leading the region for many years, Cuba’s health indicators are beginning to suffer. Between 2019 and 2025, the infant mortality rate rose from 5 to 8 per thousand live births – a stark reflection of mounting shortages.

Six consignments have already reached Cuba. More are on the way.

Your support makes this possible.

Donate today to the Cuba Vive Medical and Emergency Food Appeal and help ensure that solidarity becomes practical, life-saving support for the Cuban people.

“Thank you for launching this appeal. Every butterfly needle, every medicine, every item of medical aid that is sent, will be helping to save a life.”
